Costa de Oro
Data
Also know as Arroyo de la Lisa. The run is a small swift creek at the put-in. a couple good rapids right off the bat. Then a series of three small falls. I ran the second two blind after missing the eddy after the first. So I guess the eddies are tougher than the falls. good jungle through here. keep your eyes pealed for water falls. there are some big ones. first is portaged down to a side stream and then back in. Portage a steep chute in to a large flat walled out hole. Might be run-able. all nice basalt mini gorges in this stretch. run a few good chutes and rapids. Nice pool drop. A long complex rapid with a mean hole at the end is followed by a big falls. punchbowl falls is about 35. unrun to date. Thought looks good. It would be nice to spend some time here looking into the last canyon after the falls. who knows what is in the canyon below here. all portages are on the left. We took this portage up into fields and walked at least a km, looking down on the gulf of Mex, before putting back in below an impressive waterfall. Near a set of pipes for water for Arroyo de la Lisa. Run to sea is about 2 km of shoals and tight turns. Braided. Good camping on the beach. But some shady characters in town.
The guy who lives at the take out will drive you to the put in 35 pesos. dinner can be arranged in one of the houses. camp on the beach.there is more river above where we put in. The shuttle took 2 hours one way. We got stuck in the mud twice in f.w.d.
